So, you can see from the pic that the solder points came loose. I would have understood this if the grill had somehow come loose, but it had not, and appeared fully closed when I discovered that it didn't work. I'm a DIY person, and was able to fix it myself later that same day.
Now, granted I am a 'professional' musician. Not big arenas, but it's my primary source of income. So, the mic probably saw more 'abuse' than the average person would give it. But, it was still primarily just being transported in a bag. And, I've never had a previous mic have solder issues from normal usage.
I still like it. I prefer it to a 58 (again, for my voice type), and will continue to use it. But, I thought that this should be pointed out.

So, my normal mic was recently injured, and I decided to give this guy a try. I've now used it at three or four live gigs.
I asked the sound people for opinions, and what I got from a couple was basically the same thing that I was hearing, that there's a 'mid-bump.'
Now, that is not necessarily going to work out as well for everyone. But for me, that's a positive.
My voice is kind of 'sweet' or 'soft: (I'm a guy), as far as the 'timbre' of it. Not the volume, the overall quality, and that can mean issues sometimes in a live situation. With something like a 58, it's easy to not stand out in a mix, and often you have to increase the volume/gain or eq to the point that it becames feedback-prone. Or, you simply can't eq it properly, and just deal with the mud.
So, a mic like this, that naturally is more mid-heavy from the start, can be very helpful. It really helps to cut through, and may not need as much pure volume.
So yea, it might not be for everyone. If you sound good with something like a 58, you may sound kind of harsh through something like this. But, for a lot of folks, this might just be a really good option. I haven't tested it, but I would imagine it would make a nice speaking/podcast mic for just about anyone.
